Teknoware part of a major train project in the UK (27 August 2015)

Crossrail Class 345 Aventra
Grossrail Class 345 Aventra

Teknoware Oy has been selected by Bombardier Transportation UK Limited to supply the interior lighting system for the new Crossrail trains. The new fleet will have 585 train cars that will serve the route that runs through London, from Reading and Heathrow in the west, through new twin-bore 21 km tunnels below central London to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.

This multi-million project is important for Teknoware Oy and further strengthens our long term cooperation with Bombardier. Teknoware has been the interior lighting and emergency lighting systems' supplier for Bombardier's Electrostar platform for over fifteen years. The new Crossrail train will be the first project based on the new Aventra platform and therefore an important milestone for the future.

The interior lighting system is based on LED technology and will be controlled by an Intelligent Lighting Controller (ILC). Key elements in the design have been energy efficiency, long-lifetime and low weight. A stand-alone emergency lighting system will also be incorporated.

Teknoware Oy is the global market leader in vehicle interior lighting systems. Products will be manufactured at Teknoware's factory in Lahti, Finland. This project is ongoing and deliveries will begin in Q3 2015 and will run until Q1 2019. The first new Crossrail trains will enter service in 2017 on existing lines and service through the London's new tunnelled section starts in 2018. The full fleet of Crossrail trains will be in operation in 2019.

Transport for London (TfL) awarded the contract to Bombardier Transportation UK Limited for Crossrail's rolling stock and depot facilities in February 2014. The contract between TfL and Bombardier covers the supply, delivery and maintenance of 65 new trains.
